3. Swiftech 2020 High Speed Dental Steriliser

Swiftech 2020 is the world’s fastest autoclave steriliser. By providing faster, more effective sterilisation of instruments it reduces patient waiting time and helps minimise the risk and spread of infectious diseases. This high-capacity, bench-top unit incorporates:

• innovative, rapid steam generation technology that sterilises instruments 3–4 times faster than competitor products
• uniquely efficient moisture removal technology that ensures instruments for storage are dry, preventing future bacteria migration.

The technology was developed for the dental market, but is readily adaptable for medical, military field hospitals, veterinary and hair/beauty applications. Its inventors were recently judged 2003 National Finalists in the Australian Yellow Pages Business Ideas Grants competition.

Swiftech 2020 represents a comprehensive advance on existing steam steriliser technologies, which have not changed significantly for 10–15 years. Its advantages include:

• initiates sterilisation after seven seconds (competitors take 6–9 minutes)
• ‘flash’ sterilisation of instruments for immediate use within 5.5 minutes (competitors take 14–25 minutes)
• ‘dry bag’ sterilisation of instruments for storage within 12 minutes (competitors take 35–60 minutes)
• consistently achieves 100% moisture-free ‘dry bags’
• greater capacity, availability and versatility, with twin independent chambers
• compact footprint (equivalent to a small microwave oven)
• decreases patient waiting time – increasing practice productivity and revenue
• reduces instrument exposure to high temperatures, and thus maintenance/replacement costs
• eliminates instrument duplication in two-chair surgeries, saving a possible $25,000 in Year 1 and $5,500/year thereafter
• conforms with the world’s most stringent steam autoclave steriliser standard (Australian Standard for benchtop sterilisers)
• adapts easily to new markets and changing health regulation requirements.

The technology was developed completely in house by Blixta Griffiths Pty Limited, which owns all IP and patents in most major regions. The company has received an Australian Government commercialisation grant.

The worldwide autoclave steriliser market is currently estimated at A$2.16–5.49 billion/annum, and is increasing with population growth, health regulations, health crises, public liability claims and professional indemnity requirements.
